"Richard sat tall in his chair, owning the room, with Kathy by his side, graceful and polite. Jen sat across from me.
I caught scents of steak and fine wine as I tried to steady my breathing. I was in Richard’s territory.
Nervously, I played with my watch, waiting for the right moment.
'That’s a nice watch you have there,' Richard said, pointing to my wrist.
'Thanks,' I responded, caught off guard. 'I bought it this week.'
